Construction of floating bridges

Bridges are particularly important elements of road infrastructure — thanks to them it is possible to connect two parts of the continent separated from each other by water. However, under certain conditions, it is impossible to build a permanent bridge. Then there is a need to use a floating bridge. What are floating bridges and where are they used?
Floating bridges are segmental structures used to cross waters in special conditions. They are used mainly during military maneuvers, when it is necessary to transfer armed forces to the other side of the river in a place where there is no permanent bridge, or when the only structure of this type in the area is destroyed. They can also be used as escape routes to populated areas in case of natural disasters. As a rule, these are temporary structures that are reassembled after use, but there are cases when floating bridges remained in place after construction and served as a normal crossing.
Construction of a floating bridge
There are many different models of floating bridges. Hybrid bridges are most often used, the structural elements of which, including road surfaces, are made of light metal alloys, such as aluminum. Some elements can be additionally filled with foam to increase their strength and reduce the risk of flooding. Under the metal structure of the bridge there is a supporting structure in the form of independent floating units (for example, pontoons) filled with air. Segmented structures are another form of floating bridge. They consist of light plastic cubes filled with air. The cubes are small and very easily connected to each other in various ways, thus obtaining a variety of floating structures - both bridges and piers going into the sea or lake, as well as platforms for jet skis and any other watercraft.
